‘To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark.' —Victor Hugo
I’ve had this quote saved for a while, and only just got around to making a tribute to Mosca Mye, the plucky protagonist of one of my most favorite books ever, Frances Hardinge’s Fly By Night, a story that tactfully and creatively addresses issues like political division, mass censorship and distrust of monarchy, all centered in a fascinating and engaging fictional world where power does not manifest in the form of magical abilities (as in most fantasy) but in the form of literacy. And what a strange and dangerous power it is…
(I’m not saying y’all should read it… but y’all should read it.)
(somewhat unrelated but i should mention that there is practically zero romance in this story?? Just one of the many reasons why I love it so much ok)
An amazing tribute!
