When I woke up in ancient Rome
Two thousand years away from home
A lump of plastic for a heart
My girl, I swore I'd do my part.

Two thousand years may seem too long
But Heaven knows, love is that strong
The slow path I said I would take
Two thousand years, then you would wake.

I'd never known that years had wings
Until I'd seen a hundred springs
A hundred springs, with winters too
My girl, what is this man to do?
For years have wings but days drag on
As I stand by through times long gone
For I stand tall where others chafed
My girl, I swore to keep you safe.

A hundred springs with winters too,
Do you still know that I loved you?
There in your long enchanted sleep
Unknowing bliss, in dreams so deep
I'll tell you, though you cannot hear
I'm not a hero, I feel fear
This world is such a restless place
So lacking order peace or grace

When will I see your face?

Meanwhile They guessed, but little knew
The decades passed, the tales grew
They told of one in Roman garb
Whose duty was to ever guard
Pandorica, the box of stone
And stood before it all alone

Why does he guard it steadfastly?
Who is this man? Who may he be?
What is this box? What is inside?
And no one knew but He and I
My love, my past and future bride.

Two thousand years may seem too long
But heaven knows, love is that strong
I've seen this land, I've seen it grow
From dark to light, from rain to snow
But all in all, I'm still the same
The Roman with the unknown name
I'll tell you love, though you can't hear
You are so far, but yet so near
Remember me, when you awake
Keep me in mind, for both our sakes
Remember me, when you awake.

---------

Two thousand years may seem too long
But I'll tell Them I did no wrong
And when They ask me who you are
I'll tell them you're my shining star.
For the :icontime-traveler-rory: contest, "The Boy who waited." I haven't done fan-poetry in AGES. Yeah, I'm pretty happy with this one, I tried to incorporate some little quotes and tidbits from other Doctor Who songs and episodes..."The slow path I said I would take" is a ref to "The Girl in the Fireplace", while "My girl, what is this man to do" is from Love Don't Roam and "The world is such a restless place" from Song for ten. Not really related, but I like to allude.

Great Scott. I nearly wept. I love good rhyme and meter and this...beautiful. Not to mention I adore dear, steadfast Rory, waiting for his Amy over the millennia. Well-done!

Yeah! I actually have analyzed (in my head only, unfortunately) all the fairy-tale like parts of Season 5... it all ties together! Like death not really being death but representing a maturation period... I love S5, and I love Rory, he's so sincere.:D

Meh. whatever you say.

But as I say:

Support Amy/Doctor... support the OEDIPAL COMPLEX!!! (or the Electra Complex, however you like to call it. )

How do you figure that?

Well, the whole story is structured like a fairy tale centered around a heroine (Amy Pond), and the theme is basically Amy growing up and getting over her oedipal attachments; that is, the Doctor, who from the beginning was established as her stand-in father figure. She knew him first, was a bit flighty, not really wanting to think about settling down or anything in the beginning. Rory too, had to work a bit to "earn" Amy (wasn't quite as assertive as he should have been). They both died, which Bruno Bettelheim describes in The Uses of Enchantment as a "passive growth period", not signing actual death. This passive growth period just happened to last about, oh two thousand years, and at the end Amy does grow up and marries Rory, but unlike other companions, growing up does not mean leaving Tardis. I like Rory because he's a sincere character without being a real buffoon, but luckily for us we can doublethink and ship Amy/Doctor if we want. :D

sorry for the extra-long reply but just trying to show that it's actually something I've been musing (and writing) about for quite some time, and I'm not just trying to throw around big psychology words to impress or anything. :penguin:

I like your thinking about her Electra complex :P You have a very good point. But as it's not creepy incest I like the doctor and Amy

And I would also like to point out that Amy waited for what was it, 20 years? 3 psychologists etc.
