Elwin Graham cautiously manouvered his car through the narrow downtown streets. He was not familiar with most of Beleriandville, having mostly stayed within the confines of his office, but his wife, Melanie, had been unable to pick up their daughter from ballet school that day. Mel had called earlier that afternoon, and suggested sending Luci home on the bus, but Elwin had refused. He would not have his only daughter riding in any unsanitary, potentially dangerous form of transportation. No, he would rather pick her up himself.
Now, however, he was starting to wonder whether or not that had been a good idea as he drove in circles down the narrow streets trying to get his bearings. Where was that cross street?
His cell rang.
"Hello?"
It was Luci.
"Dad, I've been waiting for, like, half an hour now. Where are you?"
"I'm sorry, I'm a bit lost here...I think I'm at Tyelpë Avenue..."
"Then you're only a block away! Oh, I can see you from here!"
He turned to see Luci standing on the corner of Tyelpë avenue and Second, waving as if flagging down a taxi. Somehow he managed to turn and pull up right in front of her without angering any of the other drivers. Luci climbed into the front seat and tossed her duffel bag in the back seat.
"Sorry it took so long, dear, but I haven't been in this part of town for ages."
"S'okay," Luci grinned. "Though you know Dad, it would have been faster if I'd taken the bus."
"No, no, it's no trouble at all driving you. You don't need to be on a rickety, smelly, ruffian-filled vehicle with the remains of Noldor and who knows what on the seats."
"But Dad, really, it's no big de–"
"End of discussion." he cut her off abruptly. Then worrying that he may have come across as too harsh, he turned to her and smiled solemnly. "I just want you to be safe. That's all."
"I know, I know." Lucy grinned again, but then she gasped, "Dad! You're not supposed to make a left on Galadh–"
Elwin muttered a few Sindarin curses as he heard police motorcycles catching up to the car.
Born from that I realized that Luthien could be pronounced as "Lucienne" in Quenya, sort of (no "th" sound in Quenya), and that "Elwin" could sub for "Elwë". Just a funny side note, Thingol's name is Elwë Singollo, Singollo meaning Grey-cloak. Well, the English name Graham comes from a couple Old English words that spell Gray-hame (Gra-ham, Gray-hame, hame as in cloak, coat, like what Theoden calls Gandalf.) So we get Elwin Graham! A really geeky name, but you know. And yes, Melanie is subbing for Melian. If I get more ideas Beren and Celegorm and Curufin might come in too. (as Brenden, Kelly, and Curt.)
